RADIAL ACCESS PROTOCOL

Documentation of access to RR Artery . Prior to procedure, manual palpation of arterial access carried out by operator. For difficult access sonosite is used.

TR BANDTM APPLICATION PROTOCOL

At end of procedure:- clean area with sterile saline withdraw sheath back 2-3 cms, position TR Band with green dot 1-2 mm above puncture site. Check band is secure ( use little finger) . Insert up to 15mls of air into Band and inflate & withdraw at same time . Withdraw 1 ml until flashback occurs , re insert 1 ml at a time until haemastatsis is achieved . Check with sats probe and complete reverse barbeau test to check for radial artery patency .

TR BANDTM DEFLATION & REMOVAL PROTOCOL

DISCHARGE PROTOCOL

Inform patient to observe arm overnight, no heavy lifting for 12 hours. Try to keep dry To remove dressing following day . Patient information leaflet given to patient , all patients advised to call ward if any concerns . If bleeding occurs advised to apply direct pressure and call 999 . All patients are advised to have someone stay overnight

TIPS & TRICKS TO IMPROVE RADIAL ACCESS & DAILY WORKLOAD

Sterile gauze, placed around sheath on removal, This absorbs any oozing on removal, this is then discarded when TR Band applied .Deflation amount adjusted if patient continues to bleed on deflation.
